It might not look like anything special from the ground, just a whitish-pink sky, because you're still within the atmosphere's "boundary layer." That's where all the large particles are trapped, things like dust and pollution. But as the plane gets above the boundary layer, into cleaner air, suddenly the sunset looks very vivid. It's all a matter of perspective. Okay, so let's talk about the typical Earthling's perspective. Why do we see more orange and red colors in the sky during sunrise and sunset than we do at other times of day?The blues could be somewhere over the West Coast, leaving a disproportionate amount of oranges and reds as that beam of light hits the East Coast. So the same ray of sunlight is hitting people in both the Rockies and the Appalachians? Basically, the East gets the West's leftovers at sunset? Yes, I think a lot of people don't realize that. Everything is connected. And as humans, we like to think color is concrete: "Oh, that's a blue sky," or "That's a brown table."Speaking of forecasting, what about the saying: "Red sky at night, sailor's delight; red sky in morning, sailors take warning." Any scientific truth to that?The two main molecules in air, oxygen and nitrogen, are very small compared to the wavelengths of the incoming sunlight—about a thousand times smaller. That means that they preferentially scatter the shortest wavelengths, which are the blues and purples. Basically, that's why the daytime sky is blue.

At the time, cartoons such as Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men: The Animated Series (known for its darker tone) had begun to influence action-adventure cartoons, which is ironic considering that the cartoon is partially based on the original dark-toned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics.The show was retooled into a more action-based series. However, when the sun rises or sets, the sky tends to look red-orange.“Clear sky conditions are usually blue due to the scattering of light by air molecules in the atmosphere,” said Prof Husin starting his presentation. Furthermore, the white light of the sun consists of various wavelengths. “When light hits air molecules whose size is very small compared to their wavelength, Rayleigh scattering occurs. In this process, blue light with small wavelengths is scattered more than red,” he explained.“The position of the sun below the horizon makes red and orange light, which is not scattered much, more dominant in the observer’s view,” he added. Prof Husin also explained that in addition to Rayleigh scattering, there is also Noodle scattering which occurs when light-blocking particles are larger, such as aerosols or water droplets. “Mie scattering causes light to be scattered evenly for all wavelengths. This is why the clouds look white, even though the sky is blue,” he said.“These particles can absorb blue and violet light and reflect more red and orange light. The combination of selective absorption and Mie scattering makes the sky appear red even though the sun is still high,” explained Prof Husin.

A rarity which is longed for, not spotted on every set of a recent tour. But it is a welcome step for Dylan, whose rearrangements of Under the Red Sky over the last few years have been a sincere delight.Instrumental bliss is what this version of Under the Red Sky offers. Even to those whose ears have been rattled by live shows the previous night can enjoy this listen. Soft yet certain in his vocal duties here, Dylan brings a grittier version of Under the Red Sky to the stage.Even with the Hansel and Gretel allusions, which amazingly did not become clear until this listen, there are still some charming moments. A sincerity which is based not in the truth of the world but in the hope of a future worth living, that is what Under the Red Sky is guided by.
